Skylight Theatre night

Thank you for your interest in the Skylight Theatre Company.

Inkubator Play Reading Series, Skylight Theatre

Skylight develops and produces new works.  We're aware of  the amount of work that goes into crafting a new play and so we take the time to look at every submission, because of that it will take a minimum of 90 days before we're able to give you an answer.

The Play Reading Series is part of our INKubator Artistic Development Program and the entry step into our play development program; to be considered for a main stage production your play must go through Play Reading.

Before you submit:

Please read about the Play Reading Series, the agreement (included in the pdf which you can view and print below), and what you can expect from Skylight.

What you need to know about the submission process:

Play submissions are accepted the 1st day  of each month February - November*. We accept only new, full length works and are particularly interested in works that are inclusive, pertinent to contemporary culture and mores, and help expand American theatre. We've also been known to be a little partial to local writers.

If you would like to submit your work for our Play Reading Series:

PRINT submission package

Once it's completed and signed, send the required materials in a single email to  Include the title of your play in the subject line.

We're sorry but due to our reader process and the volume of submissions we are not able to accept hard copy submissions.  If your script is not currently available in an electronic format it will need to be scanned before submission.  Submission Release Agreements must also be submitted electronically to ensure that paperwork is complete at the time of submission.

Play submission emails must include:

  1. The complete play script.  Your name should not appear anywhere in the document.
Skylight participates in a 'blind' review process.

Musicals should include a recording of 2 representative musical numbers for the play submitted, preferably contrasting.

  2. Short bio of the playwright in narrative format (max 100 words).  Somewhere in your bio or email, please identify the city and state where you currently live.

  3. Short synopsis of the play (max 100 words)

  4. Statement of interest describing where you are in the development of the play and what you hope to get from an INKubator Reading (max 250 words)

  5. The Submission Release Agreement – completed and signed.

*IMPORTANT: Submissions sent off-cycle will not be processed. To be considered, resend during the submission period.

There is a separate process for becoming a member of PlayLAb.
